Valda: Sure, if a student can accept e-books, and you as a donor would like to donate them, that's fine. Basically, it's up to the student and donor to work out the best way to get the book delivered.

My website isn't up yet, but it's getting close. You gave an excellent response to the question. First of all pointing out that no one said that Jobs has a moral right to his money and his life. Now that's spoken like a true Objectivist.
I guess I'd been waiting all my life to find the logic of Objectivism. My mentor was an excellent teacher. He's gone now, and I miss having him around for discussions. I live in a city of about 38,000 in mid-America, and Objectivists are scarce here.

I would say that, on its face, someone saying "Objectivism is crazy" is making a completely arbitrary statement, so the likelyhood they will listen to a well-reasoned argument is low. If they make such a statement, they demonstrate that they accept whim as fact, so the best advice is to walk away.

I'd also recommend Andrew Bernstein's _Objectivism in One Lesson_. Shorter than OPAR and it provides a good enough overview to grasp where Rand is coming from and the overall contours of her thought.

My fuller article - http://rff-td.blogspot.com/2011/07/honesty.html -
shows that lying is dishonesty - the form that can be moral in a certain context.

Tom, how can you be "dishonest" for "honest" motives? That seems like a contradiction.

However, you can lie—that is, make a statement with intent to deceive—for honest motives, in certain rare cases.

That's why I make the distinction.

I know what you are saying but don't see the distinction being appropriate. I would say that a lie is an example of dishonesty, but that there are circumstances where lying/being dishonest is moral: when one's motives are honest and moral; e.g. self-defense.
